Fickle Spring

Spring is a fickle thing here in the north country. I get itchy for warmer days, more sunlight and the world greening up. I try to be patient. It’s been a long. cold and snowy winter that started in early November, and has only recently loosened its grip. A couple days of gorgeous intermittent sunshine and temps above 40° and then today: high temp 35° ish; feels like 32°…and snow on and off all afternoon. Snow showers tomorrow, with a high of 37°. Thankful for Saturday when the temps almost reached 70° and the sun shone all day. It makes these retreats to winter doable. The snow doesn't last; the temperatures will warm.

Yesterday was a whole different scene - balmy temps and glorious woodland flowers dancing in a brisk breeze. Blink your eyes to change the scene!

May is a big month for us. Opening up Squabetty is a sure sign of spring…along with the welcoming return of the redwing blackbirds and the brook running. The place has rested and the season is almost upon us. Throw open the windows, circulate fresh air - the first since early November. (Unless you count the inevitable drafts of an old house!). We are lining up projects for our time at Squabetty. Family time.  Excited for the folks who are getting married there this year and excited for anyone who gets to spend time there this year. Always a heavenly place to be.
