The Best Days of Summer

It’s hard to say that the best days of summer are behind us when summer has just begun. But when family defines the best days, they have come and gone. Three glorious weeks. The best days of each year. I am forever grateful to have siblings who accept our differences, honor our individual quirks and love us all the same. That’s the thing about siblings. We share a common history to the point when we all diverged and followed our own paths in life. The boys headed west, my sister to the mid-Atlantic and me, holding down the New England fort. Thankful for a summer place that family comes back to year, after year after year. And after three glorious weeks together, we still loved each other and can’t wait for next summer.

This year we focused on three major projects: redoing the barn floor, resurfacing the shuffleboard court and building a patio with chairs and table by the pool. And amid all these projects and the annual ones that need doing each year, we entertain - who wouldn't want to come here? Our friends come to help but also enjoy. 38 people over the course of 3 weeks - some staying a night, most more.  Campfires, nighttime saunas and swims, porch singalongs and glorious sunsets. And long, hard days of work. Sharing meals, conversations, stories of our youth, our parents. The best days of summer. Here's to many more!

Up next: project #1 a new barn floor.
